I’m About to Make Some People Mad. Again.

Last week I talked about Hollywood politics and I knew I was going to piss some people off but I only lost 2 followers. I would say that’s pretty damn good. I was expecting a whole lot more. But today I may lose even more. Cause I’m about to go all crazy again and today is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.  I hear a collect sigh but hear me out.

I love MLK’s message and desire for freedom, equality and LOVE. I think he was really changing things here in the US (and the world) but he was taken too soon. I am not sure we are all on the same page of what his message really meant either. Or some of us have in our minds an opinion of what we THINK he stood for. You can throw out all the facts you want on the man and the message but we are such a divided country that we can’t even hold the door open for another person, or say thank you with a smile because our heads are so far up our own asses we can’t be bothered. Our own opinions mean much more than how someone else feels and we are right and they are wrong. Very black and white right now.

Today I was scrolling through FB, Twitter and Instagram and I kept seeing people post the quote from MLK, “I have decided to stick to love…Hate is too great a burden to bear.”
― Martin Luther King Jr., A Testament of Hope: The Essential Writings and Speeches. And it really, REALLY bothered me. Not the quote but some of the folks posting this today. Posting about love. Posting about how hate is so bad and is considered a burden. YET, they continue to bash, troll and demean others on social media ALL THE DAMN TIME. So no, they don’t get it and are pissing me off today.

We have lost our way. No doubt in my mind. Manners are a thing of the past, helping others is become a contest “see what I did to help xyz?” And we are so nasty to our neighbors and friends because they think differently, look different, have another opinion, etc. People are venomous on social media and always want the last word. For the love, scroll past it if you don’t agree. And if you know you are posting something in anger, think twice before you hit the submit button. Consider others for a freaking change.

Everyone wants to blame someone else. No one takes responsibility for their own actions. It’s not society’s fault, it’s not God’s fault, it’s not Jenny from the Blocks fault and it’s not anyone’s fault if you have no love in your life, have no peace, have no direction or goals in life. You think everyone owes you something. You cannot change someone else. You can only change yourself. Take a good long look at yourself. What can you do to change your life. What can you do to help someone else. How can YOU be a better person. How you can YOU love others and try not to live in HATE.

How about you google MLK. Read what he stood for. Is it really what most people are standing for now in Martin Luther King Jr.’s memory and honor? Instead of protesting for change, do something that will actually help someone else. If you don’t like how politics are going, run for an office or help your political party and see where you can help bring more LOVE to the job. How can you help eliminate hate? Search your heart and see where you can change and add some love and delete some hate. Start by cleaning up your social media behavior. If it’s hateful to someone else, don’t post it. Post LOVE.

Sure you are like, Midlife Margaritas are you drunk? Nope, I’m pissed and I don’t want to be hateful. I want love, happiness, laughing, unicorns and rainbows. But don’t for one minute think I am telling people not to stand up for what’s right. But maybe you could handle  how you stand up for things in a more loving manner. Does that make sense? You can’t change someone’s mind or heart with hate and venom. But maybe you are a little hard-headed and need to learn that lesson the hard way.

So enjoy your day off today. Celebrate MLK. Do good. Love not hate. Maybe January 1st you set goals for the new year. Maybe today you could look those over and add in some love. And more margaritas!

I’m About to Make Some People Mad. Again.

Cheer’s Y’all!
