I Am Heath Ledger (2017) Review

A documentary having a closer look into the life of Heath Ledger, many of his family and friends talking about the impact he made on their lives along with archive footage shot by Heath himself. Documenting his rise into Hollywood and the journey that put him on.

Even to this day his death at the age of only 28 is still so tragic and sad. A truly talented actor who seemed to just be getting started with his incredible roles. This documentary takes a look at the key roles in his career which certainly had many different types, just showing that he really was willing to try many different things. Not becoming Peter Parker and Spider-Man though he didn't think that was for him at all! Don't worry though we all know that it was another comic book based film that he would get involved in a lot later.

Heath had actually filmed a lot of his own footage on a small camera he used to take everywhere. It was actually really nice to watch his family and close friends talking about all of the good times they had together, that is important when you lose someone so close to you. Focus on all of the good things, the happiness they brought. Heath brought a lot of happiness it seems and was such an artistic and talented man. No one tried to hide anything though and were very open about his energetic nature and his inability to sleep properly, calling and turning up at their house at all different times.

It was very interesting to see how he dealt with his rise in Hollywood and how he struggled working with Mel Gibson his hero with so many nerves while doing The Patriot. A very important thing to think about that everyone suffers from getting nervous. The Dark Knight is one of my favourite films of all time and I feel that Heath's Joker is outstanding and one of the greatest performances of all time. He more than deserved that Oscar, it was just such a shame he didn't get the chance to accept it himself.

With the incredible film roles that he done and therefore left behind for us to watch it is actually pretty hard to believe that it has been 10 years since he left us. As we can watch them over and over again it doesn't feel like that long at all, and what incredible films did he leave behind! He really will go down as one of the most talented actors of his generation. A beautiful man as well, sorry had to mention that at some point he really was such a good-looking man! That didn't make him conform to roles like that though he picked out his parts and wasn't afraid to take on the tough and ugly roles. He will forever be missed, but at least we can always remember him fondly.

This documentary is a very good celebration of his short yet full life.

I Am Heath Ledger is released on DVD, Blu-ray and Digital download on 22nd January 2018 - On the tenth anniversary of his death.
