South London’s Sophie Nicole Ellison, known as HUSSY, has just released a double A-side of ‘Slayer’ and ‘Playtime’ ahead of an EP in early 2019. ‘Slayer’ is full of grunge-laden guitars and more restrained shoegazing moments as Sophie tries to capture the feeling of not quite knowing what you’re meant to do with your life when you’re in your 20s and how you search for ‘validation through your work’, while ‘Playtime’ is a poppier affair, although the lyrics still dig deep into her emotions. With elements of new wave, it’s a compelling and avant-garde song which whets anticipation for whatever direction HUSSY decides to go in next.
