Hungary | Country in Europe

By Vikasacharya

Hungary is a can't miss that offers great value, beautiful landscapes, rich history, hearty food, and is one of my favorite places to explore in Europe. Hungary lies in the middle of Europe, in the Carpathian Basin since its foundation, which 1100 th anniversary was celebrated in 1996.Hungary is one of the most important tourist destinations in Central and Eastern Europe welcoming more than 1 million visitors each year. Sitting at the crossroads of Europe, quirky Hungary has managed to become cosmopolitan while remaining perfectly Hungarian. Classical music is revered here, and Hungarians have revived their elegant, Vienna-style café culture. In the countryside, even older traditions live on - and a renewed passion for winemaking thrives. Dive into a bowl of spicy goulash, then while away an afternoon over a delicate dessert at a genteel coffeehouse. Sip a sweet local wine as you try to wrap your head around Hungary's colorful history and your tongue around its idiosyncratic language. Its capital, Budapest, is bisected by the Danube River and famed for its dramatic cityscape studded with architectural landmarks from Buda's medieval Castle Hill and the grand neoclassical buildings along Pest's Andrássy Avenue to the 19th-century Chain Bridge. The country has a long, rich history, and its culture reflects Roman, Turkish, Slavic and Magyar influences.
