“Humbled”, Hong Kong, November 2012

Just like other major cities in the world, Hong Kong has its share of poor, unfortunate souls begging on the streets amidst the huge amounts of money rapidly changing hands in the city on a daily basis.  I was surprised to find this lady by the sidewalk along Nathan Road but what surprised me more was the way she positioned herself; face down, almost immobile, just waiting — perhaps praying — for the next passerby to drop a coin into that plastic cup.
