Story: Human Capital starts as we meet real estate agent Drew (Schreiber) who meets his daughter Shannon’s (Hawke) boyfriend Jamie (Hechinger) family, which will see him creating a deal with stockbroker Quint (Sarsgaard). The deal will put a lot on the line for Drew and when the deal goes south, he wants to know what happened.
Meanwhile after an incident over the night, the Manning family are searching for the truth about an accident, as Quint and Carrie’s (Tomei) marriage look like they are coming crashing down.
Thoughts on Human Capital
Thoughts – Human Capital is an intertwining story that jumps between the main characters perspectives of what has happened to lead to the event which will lead to the tragedy involved. This isn’t the most interesting way to bring this story together, with the creation from the first idea seemingly becoming a small part of the bigger picture involved and the incident that changed everything seemingly getting played down much more than it should have. This is more confusing because of the lack of interest about the main characters careers and decisions through the film. The performances don’t get going to the levels we would expect either, leaving the talented cast with not much to do for large parts of the film.
Human Capital is an overly complex film that never feels like the mystery is unwrapped enough.
