The sources claim that Huawei has not yet made a final decision and that an agreement may not be reached as Huawei is still trying to make its own Kirin chipsets. Even so, the company denied the "rumors" in a shared statement Android Authority::

Huawei has learned that unsubstantiated rumors are circulating about the possible sale of our flagship smartphone brands. These rumors have no value at all. Huawei does not have such a plan. We remain fully committed to our smartphone business and will continue to deliver world-leading products and experiences to consumers around the world.

In any case, the sale of Honor is an example of Huawei's smartphone business. It remains to be seen how successful the award will be in terms of smartphone sales, but the newly independent company has re-established relationships with companies like Qualcomm, AMD, MediaTek, and others.

A sale of the premium P and Mate series brands could also turn a similar turn, opening the door to P and Mate series phones powered by Qualcomm and / or MediaTek silicon. In theory, Huawei could keep its mid-range and budget smartphone activities as they don't require as many state-of-the-art components as flagships.
