Mobile phones have drastically evolved over a period of two decades. Where a mobile phone was utilized just to make and receive calls and messages, today a smart phone can do anything and everything with just a single click. As the name says, smartphones have really evolved intelligently with time. Right from making calls to sending emails, right from making an online purchase to making presentations through internet, smartphone can do everything with great finesse.
But in one particular area smartphones are moving ahead with a great pace, i.e. Camera. We had never imagined camera to be equipped in a smart phone. Smartphones are being equipped with high resolution camera which delivers efficient picture clarity and results. Recently, a camera expert and specialist at HTC, by the name Symon Whitehorn claimed that HTC will be soon introducing the feature of optical zooming camera which will surpass the idea of carrying DSLRs. In a period of next one and one and half year, HTC is soon going to implement this in action. Symon furnished this information in a interview that took place with Vodafone UK for the promotion of HTC One M8. Symon said, “HTC is already performing many point-and-shoot cameras, and will continue to close the gap with higher quality standalone cameras over time. Additionally, HTC will focus more on front cameras for “selfies” and will remain out of the megapixel race, instead focusing on more sensitive “UltraPixel” sensors.”
However, lens plays a vital role in clicking quality and high or low resolution photographs. DSLRs have high end lens which allows the photographer to click the best of the best images in highest resolutions possible. To this Symon said, “Optical zooming in a smartphone is not too far off at all for HTC. I can’t give too much away, but within 12-18 months we’ll see huge advances in phone optics.” DSLRs are a highly desirable device due to the presence of optical zooming in it. Symon said, “Everyone wants optical zooming, and that’s on the horizon. We’re trying to match the performance of dedicated cameras where one piece of glass inside it costs [GBP] 3000 alone. We’re never going to match that in the short term but we are getting towards those effects.”
However, the task of DSLRs can be well performed by it only. It will always remain the favorite of professional photographers. Symon hinted about their next upcoming offerings as well. The coming generation would find the presence of 4K Ultra HD option for capturing videos.
Symon revealed, “We’re waiting until 4K can really fit into people’s lives, and to make sure that that decision makes sense.” Apart from this, the trend of clicking “Selfies” is very much getting in sync with the current photography. With a focus to allow selfie clicking, HTC introduced 5 MP camera in its HTC One M8 smart phones for better user experience. Symon also confirmed, “You’ll see a lot more investment in that area. In some markets 90 percent of pictures taken are selfies. We’re not matching the rear camera on the front side, but the front camera is tuned to help you give the best selfies. It’s no longer the afterthought camera that it’s been for so long.”
