HTC Desire 728 vs. Huawei G8 – Mid-Range Phablets Compared

We present you the latest smartphones released by HTC and Huawei, which are phablets with mid-range specs, the Desire 728 and the Huawei G8 have a few things in common, but at the same time, they're very different and we'll tell what advantages and disadvantages has each model.

Designs and Displays

The Desire 728 has a minimalist look and its housing is made of plastic with a matte effect, but tit has a premium metal frame which is very durable and it doesn't easily scratch. The back is available in two variants of colors: Diamond white and Graphite black and the exact dimensions of the body are 157.9×77.8×7.9mm, resulting in a total weight of 153grams, the screen has a diagonal of 5.5-inch, but HTC made the mistake to limit its resolution to 720x1280pixels, so it's not very sharp, considering that the pixel density is only 267ppi.

The Huawei G8 is not as beautiful as the P8, but it has a metal body with three options of colors: Black, White and Gold. The device is shorter and slimmer than its rival, measuring 152×76.5×7.5mm, but because it's made of metal, it's a bit heavier at 167grams. The screen has the same size, but it uses the famous IPS LCD technology, which allows a higher resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels at 401 ppi.

Hardware

The Desire 728 came installed with Android v5.1.1 (Lollipop) and it's powered by a weaker Mediatek MT6753 octa core processor clocked at 1.3GHz, which is backed by 2GB of RAM. The Huawei G8 ran initially on Android v5.1 (Lollipop), but in short time, it will be upgraded to v6.0 (Marshmallow), inside, it hides a reasonable Qualcomm MSM8939 Snapdragon 615 octa core processor which runs at 1.5GHz with 2GB of RAM / the variant with 16GB of storage or 3GB of RAM / the variant with double storage. The G8 has a microSD card slot available for both models, allowing the users to expand the internal memory up to 64GB. The Desire 728 has also an expandable internal memory and its capacity can be increased from 16GB up to 200GB. This is a big advantage for the HTC phablet.

Cameras and Batteries

The Desire 728 and Huawei G8 have almost identical cameras, or at least their resolutions are the same: 13MP on the back and 5MP on the front, they support autofocus, HDR and can record Full HD videos at 30 fps, but the Huawei device will take brighter photos at night thanks to the dual-LED (dual tone) flash.

The Desire 728 houses a smaller battery of 2800 mAh which, on paper, supports up to 21 hours of talk time on 3G. The Huawei G8 is powered by a 3000 mAh battery, but its life is disappointing.

Prices

The 32GB variant of the Huawei G8 costs approximately 485 dollars, while the Desire 728 is sold in India for $270.
