Howard University Revokes Sean Diddy Combs’ Honorary Degree

Posted on the 08 July 2024 by Sandeep Malik

American rapper Sean Diddy Combs has recently faced significant scrutiny. Howard University, which bestowed an honorary degree upon Diddy in 2014, has chosen to rescind it following his admission of assaulting Cassie Ventura.

The assault, captured in a video originally obtained by CNN, occurred in 2016 and shows Diddy violently attacking his then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura.

According to reports, the university’s board of trustees unanimously voted to revoke the media mogul’s degree. Additionally, they announced plans to return a million-dollar donation previously made by Diddy. Furthermore, the board decided to terminate a 2023 pledge agreement with the Sean Combs Foundation, noting that the rapper had not fulfilled his commitment, and thus no funds require reimbursement.

Howard University shared a statement on its official platform, expressing, “Mr. Combs’ actions, as depicted in recently surfaced footage, are fundamentally inconsistent with Howard University’s core values and principles. As such, he is no longer considered deserving of the institution’s highest honor. The university remains steadfast in its condemnation of all forms of interpersonal violence.”

The footage of the assault, which surfaced online last month, is from CCTV footage at a hotel where Diddy and Ventura were staying. The video shows Diddy chasing Ventura, who is in a towel, towards an elevator. He then throws her to the floor, kicks her repeatedly, and throws an object at her while she lies motionless.
