Twitter is one of the fastest-growing social networks available today for both personal and business use. Using Twitter is a way to quickly and effectively communicate any opinion, link or issue that is occurring anywhere in the world. Twitter allows registered users to post updates that are limited to 160 characters each, giving individuals the ability to quickly share news or information without overloading readers.

There are more than 1.5 Twitter accounts registered each second, totaling more than 135,000 each day. More than 9,100 tweets are sent out to Twitter per seconds, adding up to more than 58 million tweets each day. Additionally, there are more than 24,000 searches completed on Twitter each second, equaling more than 2.1 billion every day.

Using Twitter Properly

Using Twitter properly requires the ability to understand and utilize “hashtags” any time you are making a post. A hash tag includes the “#” symbol before any word or phrase that you want to highlight in your posts. If you have a crush on someone on a Monday, using the hash tag “#ManCrushMonday” has the potential reach of more than 5.5 million users altogether within a matter of seconds. Additionally, “#tt” and “#transformationtuesday” has a reach of more than 8 million users, for individuals who want to share progress pictures to their online followers.

Popular Twitter Users

Throughout the years, musicians, actors and other entertainers and business professionals have found ways to put Twitter to use for their own benefit. Using Twitter is a way for individuals to earn sponsorship opportunities as well as advertising offers depending on the number of followers the user has on their account.

The most popular Twitter user today is Justin Bieber, or @justinbieber with more than 44.4 million fans and 23,400 tweets. Katy Perry and Lady Gaga follow behind Justin Bieber with @katyperry having more than 42.6 million followers and Gaga, 40 million. Even President Barack Obama has more than 36.4 million followers with 9,900 tweets, allowing him an additional platform to communicate with followers around the world. Taylor Swift falls behind Barack Obama in terms of followers with 33.8 million altogether and 1,900 tweets shared.
