Posted on the 05 January 2023 by L'Express

Over time and wear, our sneakers lose their original appearance and may even change color. For many people, the solution lies in regular maintenance by washing them in the washing machine. However, the majority of us make this mistake by washing them at the wrong temperature.

  • Remove the laces and set them aside.
  • Use a damp cloth to wipe off visible dirt and dust on the sneakers.
  • Place your sneakers in a mesh laundry bag (or pillowcase) before putting them in the machine. This will prevent the sneakers from rubbing against other clothes and damaging them.
  • Use a machine wash program cold and low speed.
  • Add a small amount of mild detergent (not laundry detergent, which is too harsh).
  • Dry your sneakers in the open air or in the dryer on low heat. Do not expose them to a direct heat source, such as a radiator or an open fire, as this may damage the sneakers.
  • It is important to note that some types of sneakers cannot be machine washed, such as leather or suede sneakers. In this case, it is recommended to clean them by hand using a damp cloth and special products designed for cleaning leather shoes.

Thanks to the washing machine, we can take care of other household chores at home while the family’s clothes, shoes and laundry are washed. However, many mistakes are made with regard to the program one chooses, and the colors or fabrics one puts in the drum.
