You could be forgiven for assuming that style goes out the window when you’re on the road- especially if you’re traveling long-term. But you don’t need to resort to fanny packs and zip-off pants for your next trip. It is possible to stay fashionable.
Here are some tips to help you stay fashionable while travelling:
Use a Garment Bag
If you’re planning a night out of you’ll be going for a fashionable occasion (think Fashion Week), you’ll probably be wearing a series of dresses or even a suit if you’re a guy. Using a good garment bag will make your packing a lot easier and ensure your clothes don’t get crushed and wrinkles. You can use your garment bag as a carry on, and often, your cabin crew will hang it up for you so you can avoid the iron altogether.
Dress up your Basics
If you’re going somewhere warm, you’ll need some cute, basic dresses and a kimono. Try to choose sustainable fashion while traveling so you can support local designers along the way. Take 70% basic clothes and 30% statement pieces, and bring a bunch of accessories to dress it up. A scarf is a must here. You can use it as a blanket when the air conditioning is out of control, cover your shoulders or head when traveling through more conservative countries. Not only are scarfs fashionable, but they can dress up even the most boring outfit, disguise spilled coffees, wrinkles, and other occupational travel hazards.
Choose Cute Shoes
Cute shoes can spice up any boring travel outfit. Of course, they also need to be comfortable, so check out Butterfly Twists- these cute flats can be folded up for travel, come in a variety of styles, and are made with comfort in mind. If you’re planning to take heels, take a similar pair of flats- just in case your feet are killing you after you’ve spent a day walking. You may also find that cobblestones and heels don’t mix, so go for practicality over style here.
Learn to Layer
Layering allows you to dress outfits up and down. That gorgeous LBD you wear out on the town or to dinner can be made into a day-appropriate outfit with a sweater or cardigan and some dark stockings. Dark jeans and a cute top can also be dressed up with a well-fitted leather jacket, a long scarf, some jewellery, and/or a smoky eye.
Staying fashionable while traveling is about recognizing your limitations and carefully weighing both comfort and style. The above tips are a great place to start for your next trip. How do you stay fashionable while travelling? Leave a comment below.
