Welcome to the world of Google's Nest Hub Max. You are about to enjoy one of the best smart home hubs on the market. The Nest Hub Max is a versatile device that offers great video calling, smart home controls, another screen to watch YouTube TV on, and more. Of course, it's also compatible with your other devices in the Google ecosystem.

However, unless you want to fix some predictable issues, it's best to set it up correctly the first time. This comprehensive five-step guide will get you on the right track.

Step 1: Remove it from the box

First of all, you will obviously need to remove the Google Nest Hub Max from the packaging. There is a quick start guide included that shows step-by-step instructions on how to connect the power supply to the Nest Hub Max. Then again, you'll want to think about where you want to place the smart display before you connect its power source. After you plug the power cord into an outlet, the Nest Hub Max automatically turns on.

Step 2: Download the Google Home app

If you're an Android user, chances are you already have the Google Home app preinstalled on your smartphone. Otherwise, you'll want to head over to the Google Play Store to download the free app. IOS users will also need to download the free app from the App Store.

Additionally, you'll want to download the Nest app as well, as it offers advanced features that you can access that aren't available through the Google Home app, such as viewing the history log, setting up activity zones, familiar face recognition and much more.

Step 3: Connect the Nest Hub Max to Wi-Fi through the app

To connect, you'll need to connect the Google Nest Hub Max to your home's Wi-Fi network using the Google Home app. This is accomplished by following the steps below.

How to Set Up a Google Nest Hub Max

  1. Tap the plus button at the top of the home screen.
  2. Choose the Sand Up Device option.
  3. Select the New devices option on the next screen because you are configuring it for the first time
  4. Choose a home for your Nest Hub Max. If you have more than one home associated with your Google Account, you can specify which home you want it to be a part of. Otherwise, the app will search for nearby Google Nest devices.
  5. Select the Nest Hub Max from the list in the lower right corner of the Nest Hub Max screen, then click following.
  6. You will be asked which room the Nest Hub Max will be located in, so choose the correct one from the list.
  7. Choose your home Wi-Fi network from the list. Once selected, the Nest Hub Max will attempt to connect to your network, completing this part of the setup process.

Step 4: Activate some key features

Once you've connected your Nest Hub Max to your home Wi-Fi, it'll offer you a few more features to help you get the most out of your smart display. These features are included below:

  • Camera detection features: With the addition of a built-in camera, Nest Hub Max can detect faces and gestures to help you personalize and control the experience beyond simple voice actions. Take, for example, Face Match, which will recognize faces and display relevant content. There are also quick gestures that pause / play videos using hand gestures.
  • Duo calls and video messaging: To make and accept video calls on Nest Hub Max, you need to set up a Google Duo account.
  • YouTube TV: With a large screen, the Nest Hub Max is a good distraction for watching videos, like those on YouTube TV. Yes, it does require a subscription, but if you don't, you can sign up for a free trial!
  • Integrated Nest Cam: The Nest Hub Max doubles as a security system, so you'll see a prompt to set up this optional feature in the Home app. You will be able to access the live streaming anytime and even have two-way conversations.

Step 5: Start using your Nest Hub Max

If you're overwhelmed by all of the steps we've just taken, don't worry - getting your Nest Hub Max up and running is a straightforward process that won't take more than ten minutes at most. If you currently have a Google home or Google Home mini , you will already be adapted to the interaction style of the voice commands. If you want to know what the weather is like outside, all you have to do is ask, "Ok Google, what's the weather like?" If you need to check your calendar, say "Ok Google, what's in my calendar?" It really is that simple. We promised you it wasn't that bad.

While there are a lot of amazing things you can do with the Google Nest Hub Max, we also recommend that you spend some time learning its interface up front. The way it is organized is simple and user-friendly: touch the screen and several cards will appear. It won't take you long to familiarize yourself with the Hoe View panel. To view this, simply swipe up from the top of the screen. Here you can control the lights, create routines, send a broadcast message to other speakers in your home, and much more.
