How to Prep Your Backyard for Grilling Season

Warmer temperatures and longer days mean that grilling season is here. Thankfully, though, the grilling season doesn't end with the summer. Even as fall approaches, the start of football season means that you can continue to grill throughout autumn. However, before you throw those first burgers on the grill, you will want to make sure that your backyard is prepped and ready to go.

Winter will have surely left your backyard with a bit of maintenance for you to do. You need to ensure your patio is cleaned off and ready for you and your family to sit out and enjoy some freshly grilled food and that the grill itself is in proper working order.

Here are a few things you can do to prep your backyard for grilling season this year.

Clean Your Grill

First and foremost, before any grilling can commence, you are going to need to give your grill a good, deep clean. Even if you cleaned it properly after the last time you used it, it has spent all winter long covered and sitting in wait. You want to make sure that it is as clean as can be so that you can enjoy some amazing meals this season.

Depending on the kind of grill that you have, your cleaning methods can vary. For instance, if you cook with coals, you will need to learn how to clean a charcoal grill as this is different from how you clean a gas grill. It is also important to remember throughout grilling season that maintenance is key to keeping your grill going strong for as long as possible. Make sure to keep up with cleaning after each use.

Power Wash Your Patio

Winter generally brings with it a great deal of precipitation and inclement weather. Whether you have a concrete, slabbed, or wooden patio, you can probably see the effects of winter on the surface. Molded leaves and mildew can also settle on your patio during the colder months of the year. To make sure that your backyard is fully prepped for grilling season, you will want to power wash your patio.

You can rent a power washing machine for an affordable price or take the plunge and invest in one for yourself. You might be surprised to learn that there are a great many uses you can get from a power washer around the house. Aside from making sure all decking and patio spaces are pristine, you can also use a power washer to clean off the sides of your home and spruce up the driveway.

Bring Out the Patio Furniture

You will need to ensure that everyone has a comfortable place to sit outside during your grilling adventures. This means bringing out the patio furniture and cleaning it off. You might consider updating your seating with some new outdoor cushions. You can add a fun pop of color to your patio in this way. You'll want to make sure that you have a large umbrella ready to protect everyone from the harsh sun.
