In fact, the right word to describe cancer other than scary would be overwhelming. A few years ago, we found out my grandfather was diagnosed with lung cancer. At the time, they were living in South Carolina, several hundred miles away from family members. As a family, we realized having a cancer diagnosis really does affect everyone within the family: your spouse, parents, siblings, children and grandchildren. It can even affect friendships. We saw how quickly my grandfather went from golfing 9 holes to just wanting to sit on the couch and not be bothered with anything. While 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will get cancer sometime within their lifetime, more and more Americans are living with cancer as a manageable disease  (Cancer Facts and Figures,” American Cancer Society, 2017). Aflac’s latest Cancer Protection Assurance policy helps to provide financial footing to cancer victims as well as their families throughout the process. They offer their care and support the moment your loved one is diagnosed with cancer all through treatment until they can recover with the assistance of their innovative and supportive benefits. Policyholders have access to CancerCare, which provides emotional support from oncology social workers, support groups and online tools. My grandmother had a lot of support from friends and her neighbors while watching my grandfather work through his chemo treatments. She also felt reassured that having the benefits to help with medical bills was only a phone call away when she had questions or concerns about anything. It’s such a breath of fresh air when you know you’re being taken care of. They adore their great grandma and the precious time they have with her while she’s still here. Don’t take for granted the moments you have with your loved ones. That’s what Aflac does for all of their clients.
