How to make roses with tissue paper
Roses are one of the most well-known and popular flowers for a number of occasions. From romance and celebration to sympathy, roses say it all. While they are always gorgeous as fresh flowers, tissue paper roses can also brighten up a room. Paper flowers are perfect for those who are allergic to pollen and anyone who wants to enjoy flowers for longer. They are also really easy to make!
What you need:- Tissue paper of your choice
- A sharp pair of scissors
- A pen
- Thin wire
- Green pipe cleaners or strong wire and green floral tape
- Start by choosing the colour or colours you wish to use. You can decide between a natural approach or you can get really creative with colours like black, or even tissue paper with patterns. You can even use more than one colour in a single flower.
- Use your pair of scissors to cut the petals. You will need eight round pieces of paper for each flower. They should be approximately the same size but there is no need for perfection. Remember that the diameter of the petal will equal half the width of the rose. So, the larger the diameter, the larger the flower.
- Wrinkle and curl the paper gently to give your petals a more natural and realistic appearance.
- Stack the petals on top of each other, hold them in the palm of your hand and place the back of the pen flat on top of them. The end of the pen should reach the middle of the petal with the pointed end in your other hand. Gently bend the sides of the petals around the pen as you twist the pen left and right, and move it up and down along the petal surface. This will create an indentation.
- Separate your petals and work with them one by one.
- Wrap your first petal in a tight, cone shape with an almost twisted base. Wrap the next petal around this first petal but leave some space between the two layers. You will want to do this with another three or four petals with each one slightly separated from the one below. The final few petals should be secured to the base of the flower but also allowed to flare outwards.
- Use a thin piece of wire to secure the base of the petals together. The bottom petals will disguise the wire.
- Attach the stem to the flower by wrapping it tightly around the base of the petals and then allowing the rest to act as a stem. Alternatively, you can use regular wire and green floral tape.
- These flowers can now be displayed as you wish. They can be placed in a ceramic vase or, if you prefer, you can use a clear glass vase and a vase filler like plastic gems and perhaps some LED lighting.
