How to Keep Urinating Or Defecating Dogs Away from Your Home

Posted on the 13 January 2023 by L'Express

In the language of canines and felines, the fact of urinating in certain places is a marking of territory. But for us humans, this is disturbing since they do their business on sidewalks, in front of our houses and even on car tires. Whether it’s yours or those in the neighborhood, we give you a list of some products that can prevent them from dirtying certain areas of your home.

To date, several natural repellents have been tested and almost all have shown different results depending on the dog. It is therefore difficult to have an effective trick that works 100% for all dogs. What we suggest is to try them one by one to see how your dog reacts. Either way, rest assured that none of these natural repellents will harm them.

Why do dogs urinate in front of your house?

There are many reasons for this

  • Territorial marking
  • excitement
  • Disease
  • age
  • A lack of training for basic needs.

Dogs that live in the neighborhood may use your lawn or driveway as a place to mark territory, or they may get too excited when they pass by your house. It is also possible for a dog that is incontinent or has bladder problems to pee without even realizing it.

To keep dogs away from places where you don’t want them to relieve themselves, here are some tips from Grandma. However, care must be taken to clean the area thoroughly and wear gloves in addition to a mask before applying them. Dogs have a very strong sense of smell: if they smell traces of their urine or droppings in a place where you put repellent, there is a good chance that this will have no effect because they will come back there. Also, bleach and ammonia should be avoided because these products encourage the animal to urinate again in the same places. Indeed, there is ammonia in the dog’s urine, so choose natural cleaning products instead.

White vinegar to keep dogs away

Its smell displeases most dogs. Just spray the place where your dog usually relieves himself with water containing white vinegar. You can also spread it on the walls and on the floor. But you have to dilute the equivalent of a lid of vinegar in 1 liter of water. That’ll be more than enough to keep him at bay for a while.. If that doesn’t work, add pressed garlic, essential oils, or lemon juice to the vinegar water and try again. For some dogs, it is extremely unpleasant to breathe.

Mustard to keep dogs away

Many dogs can’t stand the smell of this product. With mustard, you can make a solution to spray anywhere you don’t want your dog to be. Use 2 tablespoons of mustard for 1 liter of water. Even cats will flee this place.

Pepper as a repellent for dogs

If you prepare dumplings trapped with pâté and a spoon of pepper, the dogs will be rare in the places where you have laid them out.

Coffee grounds keep dogs away

While many people like to smell coffee in their homes, the same cannot be said for dogs. And that’s good because you can use the bottom of the coffee maker to repel the most stubborn of them. Air-dry the coffee grounds first before scattering them around your garden, on your doorsteps, and on any places where strange dogs urinate and defecate even when you hunt them. If your own dog likes to do this in the living room, in the kitchen or anywhere inside the house, then put the dried coffee grounds in small cups in different corners of these places.

Household alcohol, a repellent for dogs

For it to work as a repellent and without danger, you must dilute 1 glass of alcohol with a liter of warm water and use a sprayer. Shake the mixture well before spraying. You can also soak pieces of cotton with this alcoholic water and place them around the areas frequented by your dog.

There is no guilt in wanting to keep dogs that pollute our environment away. Let’s still be kind by using natural repellents that are safe for their lives.
