Bread has remained, despite the change in our eating habits, the favorite foodstuff of the French. It accompanies the dishes or becomes the base, with the sandwich breads so quickly prepared and eaten. However, kept in the open air, it quickly loses its softness, it becomes stale and dehydrated. Buying bread every day from the baker is difficult for you and you don’t want to waste food, so here is a trick that allows you to keep bread for more than a fortnight.
White bread, wholemeal bread, rye bread… and of course the baguette! There is almost a type of bread for every need. You can’t buy bread every day, you want to keep it longer, so you opted for sliced and wrapped bread, offering nice square slices of bread. And still the problem: in three or four days, when you are halfway through the bread… you have to throw it away! Mold has invaded the crust and began to attack the crumb. You risk food poisoning. Don’t worry, here is a trick to keep it up to fifteen days if not more!
To preserve your bread, you have tried many methods. Starting with the bread bin. Slipping the fresh bread into a tea towel was easy, yet it does not exceed three days. So you’ve tried freezing… Thawed bread is more moist and in a few hours, it’s just the opposite, it dries out. You wanted to go to homemade bread making… Equipping yourself with a new food processor was not your primary concern. You have opted for sliced, wrapped, sliced, and wholemeal bread. From now on, you are attentive to its expiration date. It lasts about six days as well… It is possible to go even further beyond this short time.

Dehydration and mold will disappear and your bread will last a long time
For this, you must leave your bread in the refrigerator. The low temperature will limit the proliferation of bacteria. In a plastic bag, the bread will keep its softness. However, the moisture from the bread will tend to condense on the plastic, which could cause mold. So take a pair of scissors and make openings on the top and bottom of the bag. A few small holes so that the bread can only “breathe”. You will be surprised to see that your sliced bread will last more than a fortnight! Likewise, for breads of the same type in a family version that you always keep on hand for surprise visits or pajama parties…
In a “static cold” refrigerator, good food preservation requires Choosing the right place to drop off your food. Your bread will not come in the “vegetable bin”, which is above 6°C and experiences humidity. Nor, moreover, in the highest zone, the “fresh zone”, where dairy products, cooked vegetables, cooked meats and fish are placed. It is in the intermediate zone, known as the “cold zone” between 0 and 4°C that your packaged bread will last for a long time. In a ventilated fridge, put it wherever you want.
If the cold temperature limits the exponential development of bacteria, all this is only short-lived. It is important to set certain rules in the fridge. Raw meat, no more than 24 hours! Egg preparations, too. Packaged cooked meat, can of milk or cream opened: no more than 3 days. You will store and consume your products in order. Also make sure you have good packaging with cling film, or dedicated boxes.
