Summer is just around the corner, and that means it is time to start getting your home and garden ready for the bright blue skies, warmer weather, and alfresco dining. Astronomical summer begins on Thursday 20th June 2024, while metrological summer begins on 1st June – whichever way you measure it, summer is nearly upon us, so here are five tips to prepare your London property for the season.
Touch up your London home’s exterior
Summer generally means more reliable weather, and so the start of the season is the perfect time to touch up any paintwork on the exterior of your property, from the windows and door frames, to your front door itself, June is an ideal time to add a lick of paint and give your property some extra curb appeal.
Clean and repaint/repair any fences or decking
After the cold and wet of the winter months, wooden fencing and decking can start to look quite tired. However, a quick clean and then repainting or repairing any areas where it is needed can quickly make your garden feel refreshed just in time for some barbeques and outdoor entertaining.
Revive your garden furniture
It is easy to put off cleaning your garden furniture, but a quick spray with a pressure washer will give any wooden tables, chairs, and benches a new lease of life. And a quick scrub of any outdoor cushions with some warm soapy water will make them look bright and colourful once again.
Get your garden ready
You can start preparing your summer garden from March, but it is not too late if you have yet to get on those gardening gloves and want something beautiful by mid-summer. Get the rake out and sweep up any dead leaves, mow the lawn, pull up any weeds, and prune your bushes to get your garden into a better shape. You will then be able to see the bigger picture of how your garden is coming together, and if it is looking a little bare, then consider planting some sunflowers or sweet peas which will quickly start to grow and add color.
Hunt out any mould
The warmer weather and increased humidity provide perfect conditions for mold to grow, so it is a worthwhile exercise to take a close look at your bathrooms and kitchen to search for any build ups of mold. A scrub with warm soapy water will get rid of most mould, but make sure to carefully dry the area once cleaned and dispose of the cloth to avoid spreading the spores to other areas once you’re done. For particularly bad mold builds ups, then there are specific sprays you can buy from supermarkets or hardware shops that can quickly deal with the issue.
To avoid future build ups of mould, make sure that your bathroom is well ventilated with fans and open the windows when you can to get air circulating, and double check pipework, sinks, and tubs for any leaks.
All of the above tasks can be done yourself, but if you would like some professional help to ensure the fresh paintwork on your windows and doors look perfect, someone to pressure wash your deck, or an expert to fix any leaks, then call London’s favorite handyman service Bits Bobs and Odd Jobs on 0208 244 5070 or book a handyman online.
