The Pickaxe is an important new tool that was added in the Northern Expedition update in Fisch.
Getting the Pickaxe early on is important for players who want to improve their digging skills and move forward in upcoming quests.
This guide details the exact steps you need to take to find and get the Pickaxe, so you can easily get around the Northern Summit’s rough environment and get the item.
The Fisch Northern Expedition Update
The Fisch update for the Northern Expedition came out on December 21, 2024. It added a new place for adventurers to explore that isn’t part of the normal ocean.
For those brave enough to go through it, this icy expanse holds new obstacles, valuable items, and rough terrain.

Getting to the Northern Summit
You’ll need to get to the Northern Summit before you can start your trip to get the Pickaxe. You can use a boat to do this, which you can get to through the Northern Expedition link.
Sunstone Island is the closest way to get there, but you can go from any island that is linked to the gate.
When you go through the doorway and get to the Northern Summit, you’ll see two yellow tents. This is where you should begin.
Navigating the Mountainous Terrain
Once you get there, go left. There will be a set of stairs and icy foundations on your left.
You’ll have to climb up some small hills in this first part of the journey, but with the help of ladders, it should be pretty easy.
It won’t be long before you get to a place with two tents, one yellow and one orange.
The tents should not draw your attention away from the marked road to the left. There will be three stairs in a row that will take you higher up the mountain.
The Narrow Cliffside Path
In the next step, you have to make an important decision about your route.
As you keep going up, you’ll reach a point where the path splits in two. The main road goes to the left, and on the right is a narrow path along the edge of a cliff. Pick the narrow road on the right.
- Warning: Be careful as you walk down this very small path. To get across a small gap between the rocks, you will also need a glider. Make sure you have a glider before going this way because you won’t be able to move forward without one.
Reaching the Overgrowth Caves
Once you’ve crossed the narrow road, use another ladder to go up and you’ll reach the Overgrowth Caves area.
Keep an eye on the area, because you will soon see a helpful NPC sitting there.

Purchasing the Pickaxe
There are two orange tents and a wooden box at the top of the hill. This is where you can buy the Pickaxe.
It costs C$5,000. This item is likely to be important for gathering rare materials in future quests, so players who want to move quickly should get it.
Important Note: Make sure you have enough currency to buy the Pickaxe, as it’s a one-time purchase for now.
