Posted on the 07 January 2023 by L'Express

The idea may seem amazing at first glance, but striking a match and flushing it down the toilet can help you get rid of a recurring problem. Say goodbye to harmful chemicals and make way for a proven trick.

Matches still have a bright future ahead of them. Indeed, if they are still used to light candles or cigarettes, they can also be used in another way.

Why do toilets smell bad?

  • Feces or urine can accumulate in the toilet bowl and cause an unpleasant smell.
  • Bacteria and germs in feces and urine can also contribute to the unpleasant odor.
  • Pipes and drains can be clogged, which can cause a bad odor.
  • If the toilet is not cleaned regularly, dirt and dust can accumulate and cause a bad smell.
  • Some people use chemicals to clean toilets, which can leave an unpleasant chemical smell
  • Throw a match down your toilet to get rid of bad odors

Unfortunately, the bad odors that the toilet can give off do not disappear immediately. To hide them, we instantly think of industrial air fresheners, although they are made up of chemicals. On the other hand, a simple match can perform the same role, in a matter of seconds.

Indeed, in case of persistent bad smell, strike a match before throwing it in the toilets. Thus, the smoke should mask the unpleasant smell. Of course, caution is still in order.

If the solution is so effective, it is because the match, once cracked, releases sulfur which will mask the bad odors emanating from the toilets.

Note that it is important not to throw the match, because if your drain is already clogged, it could make the situation worse. Remember to wet it before throwing it in the trash.
