In today’s technology world, the laptop becoming our go-to device for getting our work done or we can say that this is the lifeline. This is a gadget that we use to get things done and stay connected with the world whether it was just for internet browsing or working on client’s projects, etc.

Generally, a laptop disconnects from WiFi when you are not in range, or by mistakenly you have clicked on forget the password button or any other action done by you, maybe one of the reasons of wifi disconnecting issue.

But if your laptop continuously disconnects from Wi-Fi without any of the above reasons or without any human action then it may be frustrating while you are working. You are not the only one who is facing this kind of issue, there are many users like you facing the same issue. So, this is the main reason why I have created this article to solve this issue.

If it is a normal issue then it’ll resolve by just following the below steps, but if the problem persists then I suggest you to go to your laptop service center because it may be an issue of Wifi card or maybe some other issue.

Here in this article, we will see some common causes of why WiFi disconnects continuously and also give you tips to fix this issue. These fixes work for almost all Windows 10 or Windows 11 laptops and also work for all laptop brands such as Dell, HP, Acer, ASUS, Lenovo, etc.

  1. Might be an issue with the router itself.
  2. Your laptop network driver might be not running on the latest updated version or it might be damaged.
  3. The laptop’s WiFi might be trying to connect to multiple Wi-Fi networks or previously connected WiFi in that range.
  4. Might require a Windows update as well.
  5. Or it could be anything else beyond this list.

1. Restart Your Laptop & Router

When you notice that your laptop continuously disconnects from Wifi, the first thing that you need to do is to forget that WiFi network from the known list. After that, you need to restart the router and laptop. Doing this it will reset the WiFi network settings and it might fix that issue.

Follow the steps below:

Step 1: Click on Start -> Type wifi settings -> Manage Known networks.

Step 2: Select your WiFi network and then click on “Forget”.

Step 3: After that, turn off your wifi router and laptop.

Step 4: Then unplug the power cable and Ethernet cable.

Step 5: Wait for a few seconds then plugged in that cable again.

Step 6: Once all the above steps are done, turn on your laptop and router.

After the devices turn on, you need to reconnect your laptop to the WiFi network and then check again if that issue still persists or not.

2. Run Troubleshooter For Wireless Internet Connection

This is another method which is easy to understand if you don’t have technical knowledge. Windows has an inbuilt troubleshooting feature for internet connections.

To use this method just follow the below given steps:

Step 1: Click on the Windows button and type “troubleshoot settings” and enter it.

Step 2: After opening that window, click on “Additional troubleshooter”.

Step 3: Now, you need to click on Internet Connections and then Run the troubleshooter.

Once you click on Run the troubleshooter, first it tries to find the issue and give you a quick solution for that. So, try to apply that and see whether it helps to resolve your issue or not. If the troubleshooter can’t find any issue and you are still facing that disconnection issue then move on to the next step.

3. Update or Reinstall The WiFi Driver

If your laptop network driver is not running on the latest version then it might be a reason your laptop keeps disconnecting from WiFi, so, update it first. Now, check whether the issue is resolved or not. If not then try to uninstall that driver and install it again.

Step 5: Next, restart the laptop to install that driver again.

After restarting your laptop, if the issue is not solved then proceed to the next step.

4. Disable The Power Saving Option For The Wireless Network Adapter

This issue may come due to your laptop by default enabling this option because it turns off the wireless network adapter to save battery power.

Actually, this is a power management strategy but due to wifi disconnection issue, it may irritate you while you are working. This is the reason why you need to disable this option. Here is the step on how to do it.

Step 1: Again you need to open “Device manager” by clicking on the right click on the Windows button.

Step 2: Then click on “Network adapters” and find your Wifi network driver.

5. Reset Network Settings

If none of the above methods have worked so far for you then you need to try to reset the network settings on your Windows laptop. This method will restore all the settings and configurations to their original values such as the factory state. This is also a very easiest solution to fix this issue.

Step 1: Press the “Windows key + I” shortcut to open the Settings page. Then go to the “Network & Internet” section.

By doing this, it will reset the network driver and reconfigure the internet settings to the factory state. Once you have done this, restart your laptop and check if your WiFi still disconnecting frequently in your laptop.

6. Check The WLAN AutoConfig Service

In Windows laptops, Wi-Fi-related things are managed by the WLAN AutoConfig service. In case, if that service is set to Disabled or Automatic (Delayed) then this may be a reason for facing a WiFi disconnecting issue. So, here’s you can make sure the service is set up correctly.

Step 1: Firstly, you need to open the Run windows and for that press the “Windows + R” shortcut key. Then type services.msc and press enter button, it will open the “Services” window.

Step 2: Once the window will open, find the “WLAN AutoConfig” service and then double-click on it. If the Startup type is not set to “Automatic” then do that and click on the “Start” button then on Ok.

You are all done. Just, check out whether now Wi-Fi properly works or not, and for that need to restart the laptop.

7. Update Your Router’s Firmware

After following all the above methods, you’re still facing the WiFi disconnecting issue, then might be your router’s firmware is not updated. Like the laptop’s update, the router’s manufacturer also releases updates for their routers to improve the performance by fixing the bugs.

For checking the firmware update you will need to access the router’s settings page. If you don’t know how to go to the settings page then you can find it online on your router’s manufacturer’s website. Once you access that page, you need to look for the firmware update option.
