This year, my fiancé and I (Eeeeek I can’t even believe I can say that!) hosted Christmas dinner at our house and while it was fairly stressful, it was also fairly wonderful to share the first Christmas in our new home with our families. I was in charge of dressing up the dinner table and I went to town. Literally. Christmas Eve was spent frantically searching for napkins and table runners in my favorite homeware stores.
Choosing a theme is the first step to a fabulous festive table and I went for gold as most stores stock tableware accessories in this color. This way, you can pick and choose rather then be limited to one store.
I started by searching for a stunning centrepiece which I found at Sweet Trees by Browns. An edible centrepiece is sure to get your guests talking and it makes a great after dinner treat. You can eat everything but the stem!
The Ferrero Rocher tree makes an ideal centrepiece as we had six guests to fit around our table so we didn’t have a lot of room to spare. It’s small so it won’t obstruct anyone’s view which can often happen with flowers or large candelabras.
Next had the most amazing gold table runner that complemented my table which meant I could forgo the table cloth and save a few pennies. I also picked up a set of six sparkly wine glasses that lend themselves to my gold theme but can be pulled out for any special occasion, not just Christmas. Dunnes had these gorgeous gold charger plates that are a lovely alternative to plain place mats and i found champagne coloured napkins in the sale at BHS.
Once the basics have been bought, it’s time to add a few finishing touches to make your table unique. Christmas crackers are a must and I found mine at M & S. The posh party poppers are from Harvey Nichols and I added table presents wrapped in gold paper to finish. Voila!
