How to Create Your Own Signature Style

By Attireclub @attireclub

Clothes and accessories help us express ourselves. That's why people wear t-shirts with their favorite bands pictures or logos, retro dresses or elegant outfits. Even a plain grey shirt may actually tell you something about a person.

However, having a personal style that you can call your own and unique, and one that would be recognized by other people is a whole different story. This is something you need to work on a little. Of course, the key is to stay true to yourself - you won't ever seem confident to others if you don't feel good in what you wear.

We've got some tips that may help you discover your taste further, determine what you truly like and what you would like to convey with your outfits.

So, how do you get around to creating a signature style?

Find your piece

How to Create Your Own Signature Style
You may not want to go bold with your fashion choices, and it's all right - not all is lost yet. Sometimes all you need is a piece - something small but always in place. For example, if you like dressing all in black, you may consider gathering a collection of colorful socks, which will be visible from between your pants and shoes, or a piece of iced out jewelry that people will associate with you. You can also think about playing with an item you already have to wear every day anyway - like glasses - or find your signature makeup style. Alternatively, you can think about having a signature piece, and then, even when you don't wear it, to somehow incorporate its "spirit" in your outfits.

Know yourself

You won't rock any look if you don't feel comfortable, thus first you need to gain confidence. As such, it is recommended to spend some time with yourself to decide what you like but also what suits you best. No one can wear everything, so you need to determine which clothes and style are the best for your body.

It may be a good idea to take photos of your outfits daily, at least initially. This way, you will be able to gain some perspective and then analyze what you have chosen to decide if it was advantageous.

Do you not know what you genuinely like yet? Try observing. Scroll through your Instagram feed or pick up several magazines to see if there are any details in common in all the outfits that you find stunning. Pinterest is a great tool that might help you compare different looks to find inspiration.

Keep up with the trends, but don't follow them blindly

It is essential to stay up to date with fashion trends, but merely being fashionable is not a signature look. On the contrary, following trends will make you look like everybody else. But you can learn how to play with it a bit and adjust the novelties to your wardrobe.

Moreover, if you decide to buy anything from the newest clothing collection or even a designer, make sure it will serve you for years. These aren't cheap pieces but might be excellent to build your look around them. For example, a suit is a must in your wardrobe, but it's also about how you wear it.

Consider your lifestyle

You won't feel good even in the best outfit if you aren't dressed up for the occasion. You may love heavy boots and scrappy clothing but aren't the best choice if you have an office job. Some fancy items may look good, but won't be the most comfortable if you ride a crowded subway every morning and afternoon or if you have to spend a lot of time outside.

So, take some time and consider the life you lead - what you can change and how your signature look can fit into it, maybe even make it easier. For example, if your job forces you to carry a lot of things with you on a daily basis, it may be best to buy a stylish backpack to relieve your back. But yes, you can stay true to your signature look and always be dressed up for the occasion. Even with the strict rules at work!

Wear a good fit

Buy only clothes that fit you right or make friends with a tailor or a seamstress. Nothing too big or too tight should be in your wardrobe. We don't mean that you shouldn't wear a tight dress or an oversized jumper - but there's a difference between these and pieces that simply aren't the right size.

Confidence looks best

Whatever your fashion choices, it is essential to feel good with your signature look. As long as you feel comfortable and powerful, you can rock virtually any style. Make sure to discover yourself, analyze each look you put together, and choices of other people. Don't be afraid to experiment a little.

Creating your signature style is not an easy task, and it might take some time. However, it is definitely worth it - once you identify with what you wear, you know you look good, and as such, you gain confidence. It can be of great help in your personal and professional life.

And one more thing - don't forget to have some fun in the process. Fashion should be enjoyed!
