Have you ever found a top or dress with a neckline that just didn’t feel or look right on you?

Maybe it was too low-cut or too high, or just didn’t look right, most likely because it didn’t match the shape of your face or jawline, as you didn’t know that’s one of the most important aspects of finding flattering necklines.

The neckline of your clothing can have a big impact on your overall look, but sometimes it can be difficult to find the perfect fit. In this article, we’ll explore some tips and tricks for creating the ideal neckline, whether you prefer a high neckline for modesty reasons or want to emphasize a flattering v-neck or scoop neck.

Layering with Necklaces and Scarves

An option for creating the ideal neckline is to use accessories like necklaces and scarves to create the illusion of a different neckline shape. For example, if you prefer a higher neckline but want to create a v-neck shape, you can wear a longer necklace or pendant that falls in a v-shape down your chest. This can help draw the eye down and create a flattering neckline shape without actually altering the neckline of your clothing.

Similarly, if you have a dress or top with a low-cut neckline that you want to cover up, you can wear a scarf or chunky necklace that covers the neckline area. This can help create a more modest look while still allowing you to wear the clothing you love. When choosing a scarf or necklace, make sure to consider your body shape and balance points to create a flattering overall look.

Finding Your Balance Points

When it comes to creating a flattering neckline, understanding your body shape and balance points can be key. Your balance points are the areas of your body where lines intersect and create a visually pleasing proportion. For example, your first balance point is determined by the length of your face, and is located on your chest, usually just above the cleavage on the breastbone. Your second balance point is usually just underneath your collarbone.

To create the ideal neckline, try to align your neckline with one of your balance points. For example, if you have a high neckline, you can align it with your second balance point by choosing a collar that sits just underneath your collarbone. If you have a low-cut neckline, you can align it with your first balance point by choosing a pendant or necklace that falls to the length of your face.

Choosing the Right Undergarment

If you prefer a high neckline for modesty reasons or just personal preference, you can still create a flattering look without sacrificing style. One option is to choose an undergarment that matches your skin tone, creating a seamless and subtle neckline that blends with the rest of your outfit. The undergarment can provide coverage while still allowing you to show off the neckline you want. I’m a fan of the Bstring, a great little bra attachment designed to hide your cleavage that works on all bra sizes, adjustable from small to extra large, to give you coverage without the need for extra layers.

Creating the ideal neckline for your body shape and personal style doesn’t have to be difficult. By layering with accessories like necklaces and scarves and understanding your balance points, you can create a flattering and stylish neckline that makes you feel confident and beautiful. So don’t be afraid to experiment with different necklines and accessories to find the look that’s perfect for you!
