Planet Fitness is a chain of popular fitness centres with over 15 million members. However, they have not made modern customer service support plans, even for customers cancelling their membership plans.

Kindly note that Planet Fitness doesn't allow you to cancel your membership on your phone or online. Your membership, however, could have been held on hold due to pandemic restrictions. If that is the case, you may be able to get a three-month hold for medical reasons.

To cancel a planet fitness account, you are required to visit your home club and speak to a representative from the front desk or send a letter via postal service rather than allow you to close your account online.

The membership status is automatically frozen for people who have a Planet Fitness membership whose home club has been closed down for safety and social distancing reasons. Hence, you won't be charged any fees whatsoever. When your club reopens, you will be notified.

As I said earlier, you can't cancel a Planet Fitness membership unless you visit your gym or write a postal letter. To ensure you cancel it, you must do it either in person or by mail.

How to Cancel a Planet Fitness Membership

To cancel your membership, you have to visit your home club's front desk and request a cancellation form in person or send a letter stating your intent to cancel your membership and including your name, address, phone number, and Planet ID membership number to be addressed to your home club.

Planet Fitness also recommends sending it via certified mail and ensuring you follow up with the club. This ensures that the application is received, approved, and processed on time.

How to Pause Your Planet Fitness Membership

Rather than cancelling entirely, you can pause your Planet Fitness membership temporarily. This will put your account on hold.

Many clubs under Planet Fitness allow you to put a membership on hold for up to three months on a medical basis. However, the rules may be different for some clubs. Therefore, it is safer to reach out to customer service at your club.

How to Upgrade or Downgrade Your Planet Fitness Membership

To downgrade your membership, instead of cancelling it, you need to visit the desk. Go to your home club and speak to the person in charge about your account. The upgrade can be done online from this upgrade webpage or the front desk. Open the page in a browser and follow the instructions. However, you will need your Planet Fitness Keytag number to complete the upgrade.
