How to Brighten up Your Kitchen

By Annamoss84 @missanniebean
I can’t quite believe I’ve been in my house for a year!  Time has really flown by.  When we first moved in it didn’t feel like it was ours but now it truly feels like it is.  We spent more than we’d initially set out to and so we’ve pretty much had this year to get back up to speed financial, which therefore has meant no decorating (apart from the bedroom on moving in).How to brighten up your kitchen

One place I’ve mainly wanted to revamp is the kitchen which is an awkward shape, very dated and generally needs a kick up the interior bum.  Now, we do have grand plans of knocking through into the dining room to create and amazing social kitchen space but unless I land into some more or sell a kidney... that’s not going to happen anytime soon! With this all in mind myself and Nick have decided to do a bit of DIY to revamp and save costs.  We are looking to get a new hob fitted and one of those big farmhouse kitchen sinks, we've seen a few bits we love from Homebase (plus we can collect Nectar points). We are blessed with the fact that the kitchen is so old the cupboards are proper wood – great starting point.  We investigated and found some specific wood paint in a creamy color in order to brighten it up.  I was a little hesitant about doing this because I didn’t want to sand 15 cupboard doors, purely for the fact doing this to my desk took absolutely ages and time is something I’m limited with.  We have tested out one of the cupboards with the paint and even though it needed a few coats it looks fantastic.

Items to brighten your kitchenvintage kitchen
We are a long way off gettings all the painting done, so in the meantime I've been looking at statement pieces to help start the change.  As you can see I've gone for the whole vintage inspired items.  I adore the beautiful blue DeLonghi toaster and the vintage Tala jars.  I'm desperate for a mixer like the pink one... and a new kettle (to replace my very old one) like the cermaic one from Next.
I will keep up updated on our kitchen transformation and the exciting new additions we find!
