Different cities of Pakistan are once again engulfed in dengue. The disease has become pandemic, and thousands of people have been victimized in several cities from Karachi to Peshawar.

According to some reports, the number of people infected with the disease has so far exceeded 10,000, while infectious diseases specialist and head of the dengue cell at the National Institutes of Health in Pakistan, Dr. Rana Mohammad Safdar, according to the report, the region is affected the most.

According to him, at least 20 people have died from dengue in the country so far.

The BBC tried to get medical experts’ opinions on how to treat the dengue disease, what precautions were taken, and what should be done if the disease did not occur.

How does dengue spread?

Dengue mosquito is the main reason of spread of dengue in Pakistan and around the world. The mosquito-skinned mosquito is present in Pakistan from September to December following monsoon rains.

Experts say the mosquito is nourished at temperatures of 10 to 40 degrees Celsius and dies at lower or higher temperatures.

Dengue substance is produced by mosquito bites. Male-matched substances require protein to lay eggs, and it is the human blood suction to obtain the protein that transmits the dengue infection.

Aedes aegypti mosquito eggs and larvae are raised in clean and saline water, for which a favorable environment is present in common homes.

Precautions

Former General Secretary of the Pakistan Medical Association, Dr. Sher Shah Syed, says the difference between malaria and dengue is that the disease is fatal, but there is no specific cure for this.

According to medical experts, the most important thing to prevent dengue disease is not to allow water to accumulate anywhere. Experts say that usually, people’s attention is directed only to wastewater, but even clean water can cause the disease to spread.

Dr. Sher Shah Said says mosquito bites and sprays should be used because once the disease is infected, it can take up to two to three weeks for the Dengue virus to disappear from the body.

He said that if the water accumulates around the houses or in lawns, courtyards, etc. after the rains, it is possible to prevent dengue from spraying it immediately.

Dr. Sher Shah said that if the mosquito breeding environment is eliminated by maintaining sanitation, it is possible to eradicate the disease, and the developed countries have similarly overcome the disease.

How to get dengue?

According to Dr. Nida Abrar, dengue fever is confirmed by blood tests called NSN or PCR.

She said that public hospitals usually carry out NS1 tests while PCR tests are usually not done because of the cost.

Symptoms of dengue fever

According to Dr. Nida, the symptoms of the disease include high fever, severe pain in the body, especially in the waist and legs, and severe headaches.

In addition, the patient complains of nausea and vomiting, red marks on the body, and blood in his gums or nose.

During the fever, the dengue patient may develop drowsiness and may also have difficulty breathing.

Dengue virus also affects blood flow and heart rate and can also affect blood pressure or blood pressure and heart rate.

What to do if you get dengue?

  1. Doctors say the dengue patient needs more rest
  2. The patient should be consumed in large quantities of water. This is important because it can reduce the number of people admitted to the hospital. You can drink fruit juices, ORS, etc. in addition to water. However, the use of carbonated drinks should be avoided.
  3. Avoid the use of antibacterial drugs such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and anhydrous.
  4. The patient should repeat the CBC and FBC tests. The number of white blood cells, platelets, and hematocrit in the blood are calculated after the patient’s first blood test to determine how often they are repeated.

Repeating these tests determined the treatment according to the levels set at the beginning. If the disease is in the first stage, the patient is asked to repeat the test on a daily basis.

How to avoid dengue

  • Reduce the use of a room cooler, and the water standing in it should be dried immediately. Water should not be allowed in decorative towels, damaged car tires, parks or roofs, etc.
  • Rainwater should not be allowed to accumulate at any place, while the proper arrangement of drainage from the air conditioner should be made.
  • Mosquito spray should be sprayed, especially under corners and furniture. Use mosquito bites and mosquito repellent lotions.
  • Water vessels such as buckets, loot, tanks, vases, drains, drains, old tires, and clean water utensils should be covered or poured.

Myths and facts about Dengue virus

Dengue is an infectious disease?

This is just an assumption because the dengue spreads through mosquitoes, and it cannot look directly at anyone.

However, if a common mosquito bites a dengue patient, the dengue virus is transmitted to it, and this mosquito can be just as fatal as a dengue mosquito.

This is why dengue patients are especially housed in mosquito bites.

Reducing platelets means dengue?

This is just an assumption. There are a number of different contexts that offer a similar picture.

However, because dengue has become an epidemic in our society, it is reasonable to suspect to some extent that platelets are declining.

Dr. Nida Dar points out that despite the low volume of Pilates, most patients do not receive artificial platelets because of their transfusion.

The transfusion is provided only in the following situations:

  1. When their number drops below 10,000
  2. When the number of platelets is between 10 and 20 thousand, and blood starts to come from any part of the body.
  3. Excessive blood starts to flow from any part of the body, regardless of the amount of quantity

Is papaya juice a cure for dengue?

Dr. Nida Dar considers this as just an assumption and says that dengue treatment is not possible with papaya juice.

However, because doctors say that the dengue patient is drinking large amounts of juice and water, this assumption helps us maintain a certain amount of water in the body.

Does dengue occur only once in life?

No, it’s wrong. There are four different types of dengue viruses.

It is true that if someone has been infected with a dengue virus, it is less likely that you will be the same type of virus again.

However, the chances of another dengue virus becoming more and more dangerous are also increasing.
