That’s what I wondered too when I started to self host my blog. YourBlogName.com looks good already but there are times that I could get a little OCD.  And this time, I was directing my OCD with my own WordPress Blog URL.

WWW or Non-WWW, does it matter?

Honestly? It doesn’t really matter. If SEO is your concern, then don’t be. There’s definitely no benefit or whatsoever if you go for www or not.

Here in Blushing Geek, we ofcourse go for with www URL, www.blushinggeek.com.

However, if you type – blushinggeek.com – you will still land to our website without any problem with the www automatically appearing in your browser’s address bar. The same applies vice versa.

Adding www or not is entirely down to personal preference. Most web owners and bloggers doesn’t really notice the difference until someone points it out. But whichever you choose, make sure you stick with it ’till the end. Why? This is because Google will index your website based on your initial choice. It’ll crawl your website and display your preference in the SERPs.

Just want to remind you, this only works for WordPress.com.org and not WordPress.com as well as blogger (blogspot.com) and other blogging platforms. Just beware: make sure to follow the steps below or you will be lock and your blog will fail to show up. I tried that the first time and I screwed up, instead of putting www, I mistakenly put ww. I’ll be creating an article about that soon too so no worries *wink.

By default, WordPress will use a naked, non-www URL.

For adding www, go to dashboard and from there, click Settings > General.

On this page, there are only two fields you need to focus and edit:

  • WordPress Address (URL)
  • Site Address (URL)

Warning: http:// should be added or you’ll encounter a more alarming problem.

If you want to remove the www, then this is done exactly the same way – just omit www and hit save.

Just reload or check your website to see if it works.

Final Thoughts

Whatever you choose, having www or non doesn’t really matter. Just go for what you like and stick with it and you’ll be fine.
