Do you have an eCommerce store or looking to start one in the near future? eCommerce is really taken off today as major retailers are closing up their brick and mortar stores. Even many bloggers have a shopping portal or products on their blogs today.
People are shopping online more than ever before. Furthermore most of the searches for product or services start with a mobile device. People are out and about with their mobile devices and when they need something their turn to search.
eCommerce A Few Years Ago
Over 5 years ago now I maintained an eCommerce website. It was for a medical scrub company. I built the site through Stores Online. It was a cookie cutter type of website but they offered 24/7 tech support. I learned invaluable knowledge from this experience. The website was maintained by me for several years. I quickly realized one could not sell items from a website without some marketing.
Meanwhile I did some Google AdWords and display ads. A while after that I began to blog. Blogging can help you to make money online. Blogging is really a must for any website today. At this point I hooked up to social media to network with others in the medical field. I set up a separate Twitter account for the eCommerce store.
Twitter moved fast and how I could connect easily with others quickly. On Facebook you had to know people to connect with them back then. At that time my personal Twitter handle was a big experiment and learning tool. The best way to learn I believe is by doing.
How Twitter Changed eCommerce For Me - Use Twitter To Make More Sales Online!
Quickly I learned I had to share valuable information to the medical community in order to sell some scrubs. I began to converse with some regularly. Shortly in a few months I had the biggest scrub order via Twitter.
Next I had connected with a doctor in Texas who loved the NCAA scrubs that were offered on the website. By quickly getting his email via Twitter DM's (direct messages) he then purchased the biggest order ever on the eCommerce site. This is how I feel in love with the power of Twitter. That's how I learned to use Twitter to make more sales online.

Do You Really Think Twitter Is Not Relevant Today?
Someone said precisely that the other week while I was in digital training. They said that "no one used Twitter anymore." It was late in the day and I had a 2 hour ride home so I didn't dare speak up. (I wanted to say is that why the news starts with what was tweeted by who, etc? )
But it really got me thinking, is that what some people think today? I know not everyone loves Twitter and more people are on Facebook.

The Real Value of Twitter
I was quickly reminded by our instructor the value of Twitter. The unseen value of Twitter is because Google likes Twitter and shows tweets in their search feed. Hmmm. Imagine having your tweet show up on Google when someone is searching on Google? Google still gets over 77% of all search traffic today. Google is still the place to be seen.
The one important thing to remember about Twitter is this:

Why Is Google Friendly So Important For Twitter?
It is important because Twitter gives your eCommerce site or blog SEO juice. Tweets show up in Google search. Any links back to your site will be indexed by Google. Search Engine Land covered this Google change in their 2015 post when Google started have access to Twitter data feed.
Google does not like Facebook. They are at war for internet share and advertising revenues. Your Facebook posts may reach a lot of people but they will not be seen in the Google search. Of course now to reach a lot of people on Facebook you must pay to play as Ryan Biddulph says.
Ryan is right about that and more. Facebook can work well if you pay for their ads. And you better know how to do their ads correctly or your ads will get rejected with no explanation. You have to keep up with all their Facebook changes or hire someone to do it for you.
Twitter - you just tweet and engage. Rinse and repeat and you have a winning formula. Of course it takes time to happen, don't expect results overnight! Use Twitter to make more sales online today.

Social Media in eCommerce Today
Social media plays an important role in marketing today. You really can't afford to be hiding from it. There are several folks who still hide from social media today. They do not want any of their info out "there". I think it may be out "there" whether or not they put it there today. Wouldn't you rather put your own info out on the internet instead of someone else?
