I'm sure I'm not the only person who was somewhat shocked Tom Brady left the New England Patriots. It may not even be so much of a shock that he left New England. At 42, he is in the upper part of the age group for a quarterback. He spent 20 seasons in New England, played in nine Super Bowls and won six - the most of any player in NFL history.
He won a record of four Super Bowl MVP awards and three NFL MVP awards. For all of this and many other reasons, Brady is considered the greatest quarterback of all time. His fans certainly believe him. On top of that, he is married to a model and it is not bad to look at himself. He lives an enviable life and you wouldn't be alone if you thought he would retire from a Patriot. But no, Tom had other plans when he decided to move away from New England.
When the free agency period opened, there were reports that Brady was looking for a new deal. And who could blame him? For years, Brady has been essentially underpaid. Last season, he made a paltry $ 15 million. Tom Brady has certainly had bargaining power for many years now to negotiate a better deal. But he was not interested in doing that. So far, apparently. Then rumors began to circulate that Brady was speaking to teams other than the Patriots. Then, the official announcement came that Tom Brady would play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next season. How much money Tom Brady will make in Tampa and that's why he left New England
According to reports, Brady signed a two-year deal with Tampa with a guaranteed value of $ 50 million. Brady could also earn an additional $ 9 million in incentives if certain notes are met. Thus, for two years, he could bring in $ 59 million in NFL salary. In addition, as part of his agreement, the Bucs agreed not to use the franchise tag on him or to exchange it when the agreement expired. Interestingly, when Brady renegotiated his contract with the Patriots last year, he used similar language.
Now, what's fascinating is that reports have revealed that New England would have given Brady the exact same deal if Brady had expressed interest in returning to the Pats. It was not, in fact, probably due in part to a bitter relationship with Bill belichick. The first day he was able to contractually announce that his services were available to another team, Brady announced that he was leaving the Patriots. In addition, the Bucs and Los Angeles Chargers (who recently lost long-time quarterback Phillip Rivers) were the only teams to have made offers to Brady in free agency and Brady chose Tampa, likely due to her proximity to New York, where her son and ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan lives.
Interestingly, the $ 50 million guaranteed that Tampa pays Brady is less than what New England offered him last year in his contract renegotiations. But why two years? Well, obviously there is his age, but also give Tom Brady, the GOAT, a one-year contract to prove his worth to a team that has not won as many playoff games in its entire franchise history as Brady with the Pats would be ashamed.
The Bucs cannot trade Brady, so he has all the bargaining power over where, if ever, he will go for the 2022 season and beyond. Now we all have to get used to Brady wearing the red and black jersey of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
