How Long Does CBD Last?

Posted on the 30 July 2019 by Vapeshopuk

CBD Oil is one of the top ways people like to get their CBD, simply taken sublingually or ingested with food. Some people may be thinking of buying CBD Oil to use in the long term, but how long does CBD actually last? Today, I will help to answer this question.

This question can actually be answered in different ways. How long does CBD take to take effect? How long do the effects of CBD last? How long does the CBD stay in your system? And how long does a bottle of CBD oil last?

How Long Does It Take For CBD Oil to Work?

CBD usually takes effect in around 30 minutes depending on how it is taken. Vaping, smoking or taking the oil sublingually (under the tongue) bypasses the digestive system, meaning the effects can be felt quicker. When it is vaped or smoked, the CBD is passed through the lungs and is absorbed by the bloodstream. When taken sublingually, the oil is absorbed through the bloodstream via the gums or the tissues under the tongue.

It takes longer to feel the effects of CBD if it is just ingested, up to an hour if taken with food. Some suppliers say that it should be taken on an empty stomach, however, because of how the CBD is metabolised through the digestive system, less is absorbed if taken without food, which is not the best idea.

How Long Do the Effects of CBD Last?

The effect of CBD usually last between 4 to 6 hours, though with a stronger strength of CBD, it can last longer. Many CBD users adapt to this by taking the CBD every morning and evening, particularly with ongoing issues like anxiety and chronic pain.

The duration of the effects of CBD depends on how the CBD is taken. If it is ingested, like edibles, capsules or oil in food, it takes longer to work, but lasts longer.

How Long Does CBD Stay In Your System?

Though it only lasts for a few hours, the CBD usually stays in the system for longer. The half life of CBD (the time taken for half of the substance's concentration to decrease) in the human body is 2-5 days.

This was discovered in a study by the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center. In the study, 14 patients suffering from Huntington's disease (an inherit condition that damages nerve cells in the brain) were given a high dosage of CBD (approximately 700mg per patient) daily for 6 weeks.

One week after the experiment had finished, the patients were tested. The blood plasma levels of CBD were found to be “virtually undetectable”, even with such a high dosage of CBD. They also found no THC was detected in any patient.

How Long Does a Bottle of CBD Oil Last?

This depends on the strength of the CBD bottle and how many mg they are taking each day. If you are using a 300mg oil, and taking a daily dose of 10mg a day, the tincture would last around 30 days, and a 600mg bottle will last 60 days, depending on how accurately you can dose. Simply use this equation:

How long a product lasts = total CBD mg / daily mg use

What is the Life Expectancy of a CBD Bottle?

If properly stored, most CBD products can last up to a year, with some suppliers claiming they can last even longer. Not all products are designed with a long shelf life however, since they contain additives that do not last as long. Be sure to check the best before dates on the bottles for the best indicator.

Cannabinoids can deteriorate and break down when exposed to heat, light or oxygen. To prevent damage from light, CBD Oil is often sold in dark brown or colored containers. It is best to keep oils in a cool dark place, like a refrigerator, so there is no loss of strength.
