The company is headquartered in Monterrey, Mexico with hubs in New York City, Chicago O'Hare International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport, Miami International Airport, and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. As of 2013 United Continental Holdings had a fleet of more than 700 aircraft.

The current ruler, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, is the son of Qatar's Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who ascended to power in 1995 after his father's death. Today, it has a population of 2 million.

In 1996 Qatar joined the UN and gained membership in other international organizations such as OPEC and OPEC+, which allowed it access to global markets for oil with more freedom than its neighboring countries had before.
