How Do We Discern God from the Devil? – Response to a Question

The question was asked, “How can one discern whether something is from God or from the Devil?” Naturally, there are several issues to consider, as well as modes of discernment and confirmation. But the brief, simple response is: “Peace, as God both is Peace Himself and gives peace.” The Devil – Satan – can mimic everything in existence, but he is incapable of leaving peace behind as he has none to give within himself other than disorder, chaos and war. Anything originating with Satan tends to leave a sense of disquiet in the soul and, at times, such disquiet also seems inexplicable. Hence when something occurs which leaves peace in the soul, especially lasting peace and joy, the chances are that the occurrence is from God.
