- More details and renders of the Sony Xperia 5 II have been leaked.
- The new leak has an extensive list of specifications for the smaller flagship.
- Sony will launch the device on September 17th.
The Sony Xperia 5 II is slated to hit the market next month, but a new leak has left little to the imagination. Per to Android headlines Exclusive, the Japanese company's next smartphone could be one of the few smaller flagship options in 2020.
Aesthetically, it is reminiscent of the Xperia 1 II, including the noticeable top and bottom bezels and a headphone jack on the bottom. The latter is a good thing for audiophiles considering that the previous Xperia 5 dumped the ubiquitous jack.
What isn't good news is the phone's dimensions. The Xperia 5 II could be similar to its predecessor, a device we thought was too big to be practical. The alleged dimensions of 158 mm x 68 mm x 8 mm are narrower than the compact Samsung Galaxy S10e, but about 10 mm larger.
When transitioning to the screen, the Xperia 5 II should use a 6.1-inch OLED display with an aspect ratio of 21: 9. Sony is also said to be adding the 120Hz refresh rate technology while it may also include a 240Hz sampling rate. That combo could be a boon for mobile gamers looking for a spacious and responsive screen.

The report also describes Sony's range of internals. The standard Snapdragon 865 is reportedly used, not the beefier Plus version. However, it should still signal the arrival of 5G. Expect 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, while the latter can apparently be supported by a microSD card.
Sony will reportedly continue to focus on image editing. Depending on the illustration, there are three snaps on the back. This array can be overridden by a 12MP primary snap alongside a 12MP 3x telephoto lens. Another 12 megapixel camera may also be suitable for ultra-wide shots. Videographers will reportedly receive 4K HDR video footage at up to 120 frames per second, with both OIS and EIS provided. There is no word on the specs of the selfie camera.
A 6.1-inch screen, while by no means compact, would make the Sony Xperia 5 II one of the smaller flagships we've seen in a while. Given how many people would greet a new compact Samsung flagship, Sony could do something with this one.
The leak did not provide information on price or availability, but it is likely that the phone will be announced at Sony's event on September 17, rather than IFA 2020.
