How Are We To Know???

Today at a public House Intelligence Committee public oversight hearing, the NYT reports, Gen. Keith Alexander, head of the National Security Agency (NSA), stated that over 50 terror plots against America and our allies have been stopped by U.S. surveillance methods since 9/11. But due to reasons of national security and classification, Alexander said most could not be disclosed for future security reasons. The general did, though, report on 10 instances in which the surveillance programs did foil terror plots in the homeland and abroad.

Now the major point I would like to draw out was almost printed verbatim in this article: “There was no way to independently verify the claims made by the officials during the hearing.” Do I have to say more?
