How 3D Printing is Changing the Way We Eat

By Trendytechie @theTrendyTechie

3D printing is revolutionizing every industry. We’ve seen it change the face of manufacturing, fashion, and space exploration, and now 3D printing is beginning to reshape food.

Contrary to popular belief, 3D printed food is nothing like it is portrayed in SciFi movies. 3D printing food isn’t making pizza out of powder or turning synthetic ingredients into edible food. In reality, it is using technology to prepare food in a more convenient and automatic way. Take a look at the following video, showing pizza being printed:

Foodini, the printer used in the video above, is one of the world’s most sophisticated 3D printers for food, designed and developed by Natural Machines. It takes up to five puréed raw ingredients and forms them into structured food by extruding them through a nozzle. After the food is printed into its form, it is ready to be cooked.

3D printing food is still in a very early stage, but the process will only get more refined and the possibilities more real. Food authorities like Alton Brown and other high profile chefs have hailed 3D printing as the next big revolution for home food preparation, restaurants, large-scale food prep, specialty food for the military, and even food preparation for astronauts in space. As the technology advances and the food is proven to be truly healthy, we’ll be seeing a lot more robots in kitchens.

Here are some more examples of 3D printed food. What do you think?
