Houseplants That Thrive In A Cool Conservatory

By Ty Watson

House plants are the latest craze, and everyone wants a little green friend in their home. And what better way to incorporate plants into your home than to fill your conservatory with tons of them!

Conservatories are great spaces to relax and escape the real world. Since they are well lit, they are the perfect place for plants.

Adding some greenery will make for a tranquil space, so we've compiled a list of the best conservatory plants. (Disclaimer: you'll likely become a plant addict after this).

Sunlight, Temperature, And Environmental conditions

Since conservatories are built to receive tons of bright light, they're the perfect spot for indoor plants. Most plants thrive under reasonably constant conditions.

Temperatures tend to get relatively high in the summer and drop fairly low in winter.

This is why proper insulation for conservatories is essential to create the best living environment for your plant collection all year round.

Some plants may need to be in very bright spots, while some grow best in indirect sunlight.

When it comes to deciding which plants you want, consider the conservatory's temperature and how high or low maintenance you'd like the plants to be.

Cool Conservatory Plants

Now, let's get to the exciting stuff, like all of the different plant species you can choose from to create your tropical oasis in your home!

Desert plants, like cacti and succulents, are a safe and easy choice. These plants can survive hotter temperatures and cope when things cool down again.

They are also easy to take care of. Succulents are perfect for spots with direct sunlight. Some of them produce colourful flowers - and we all love a splash of colour!

Hairy succulents are a good choice as they conserve moisture by trapping moist air close to the surface.

Devil's ivy is a wonderful choice too. It looks attractive and doesn't need too much water. They can also cool themselves and their surroundings.

As a bonus, these plants remove harmful and toxic pollutants from the air. The plant can grow 8 feet long.

An eye-catching plant that's bound to turn heads is the autograph tree. They love direct light and a fully sunny spot. Keep the soil moist and mist them frequently as they love humid climates.

Suppose you want to go big and get some large plants. Then the rubber tree plant and fishtail palm are lovely choices.

The rubber tree will thrive in a sunny spot, and the fishtail palm loves lots of water and light and give them a lot of space. They're bushy and lush and give off a tropical feel.

A Yucca elephantipes can cope in cool conditions and likes light. This plant has long sword-shaped leaves, which means that it is good for conserving water.

The foliage grows in a self-shading rosette form.

Various other plants are perfect too. It all comes down to your personal taste (even though all plants are beautiful, obviously) and the conditions they can grow in.

How To Display Your Indoor Plants

Display your plants at different heights, so incorporate hanging plants or a climbing plant as well. Bougainvillaea is a great one.

You can also use big plants to shade smaller specimens rather than create artificial shades. Fernwood or the snake plant works well in shady areas.

You could even use plants with bushier foliage to cast nice dappled shade. This also adds some height variation and fills the space up.

Put plants with a different leaf shape next to each other for some variety.

You could even create a larger indoor feature bed by clustering pots together. Even adding an indoor water feature is excellent for humidity.

For The Love Of Plants

Conservatory plant displays will make any home look beautiful, and as they say, "He who plants a garden plants happiness." And a lush conservatory is bound to put a smile on your face and turn your home into a blissful paradise.
