‘Hotel Transylvania’ Has Sailed Into Theaters

A rip-roaring good time whether you go once or multiple times.

If you are looking for a great family movie this summer, you can’t go wrong with Hotel Transylvania 3. It doesn’t matter if you’ve seen the first two, but you really should not miss out on those either, because there is a whole new story to tell with the newest movie installment.

Dracula and his entire friends and family from the previous movies were all given a vacation planned by Dracula’s daughter, Mavis. Her father was not quite keen on a moving hotel as a vacation, but his mind changes quickly enough when he gets a look at the cruise ship’s captain, Erika, a human. Only Erika has a secret, one that isn’t held onto for long (honestly, I thought they would drag the secret out a little longer, but this is a kid’s movie and attention spans are shorter), because Dracula’s own grandson finds out her secret by following his dog, who isn’t supposed to be along on the trip.

This review ended up being later than I planned, as I was privileged enough to watch this movie with my family in July because of the Amazon Prime exclusive. It ended up being a blessing as our family vacation started the next day and it was extended by a family funeral which would have made us miss the opening day. But, since our return, we saw the movie again and it was just as fun as the very first time.

My three boys loved the ending music sequence that came up as good vs evil battled it out. That was the part they looked forward to the most when we went back the second time. But they all enjoyed it immensely both times, even my preteen. My youngest gave it eleven stars out of ten the first time and nine out of ten the second, due to the fact that he knew the plot. My middle son, gave the movie 10 stars out of 10 the first time and eight the second. My eldest held out at eight stars both times, which for him is saying something as he definitely does not enjoy movies a second time. My youngest found the parts with the puppy the most humorous both times. And my two older kids loved the music and the jokes. I, on the other hand, loved the parts with the werewolves the funniest, as most parents with more than the average amount of children will.

Overall, it was a great movie both times that we watched it. A definite must own on DVD. As a matter of fact, my youngest asked if we could purchase the DVD once we left the first time and my middle child had to explain to him that the movie wasn’t even out in theaters technically yet. But now, my kids are ready for this weekend when Teen Titans Go! To The Movies comes out. Look for that review coming soon.
