Hot Toddy

Hot Toddy

Maybe it’s the cold weather or my little boy going back to school but I’m a gardener with the lurgy.  So tonight in an attempt help my sore throat and increase my chances of actually getting some sleep I thought a hot toddy was in order.  It’s amazing I have never tried one, I had a friend who would swear by them, at the first sniff of a cold he would be reaching for the ingredients claiming it was purely for medicinal purposes!  So here goes….

Hot Toddy

30ml whiskey, brandy or rum (I’ve used a dark rum because I haven’t got any brandy or whiskey in the house)
1 tbsp honey
1 tbsp lemon juice (you can add more or less depending on your personal preference)
1 cup of hot water
1 tea bag

Pop the honey into the bottom of your favorite mug or heatproof glass, add the rum and lemon juice. Boil the kettle, in a separate mug make the tea then immediately add this hot tea to the other ingredients. Drink up whilst piping (but not mouth burningly) hot.

I now know why my friend considered this the solution….ahh, I can feel my sore throat melting away!  Not sure how much gardening I will be doing this weekend, I supposed to be digging muck into the fruit garden…. I’ll see how the lurgy goes I think.
