Hot chocolate is the sustenance that keeps us going through the long winter. Smooth, rich, and soothing, hot chocolate is the perfect treat for a cold morning or night. It’s especially delicious enjoyed in front of a blazing fire. Here are my top three tips for making the best hot chocolate this Winter season.
Don’t hesitate to buy a mix, but make sure you get one that has high-quality cocoa and not too much sugar. E. Guittard, Godiva, and Ghiradelli are safe bets. See the top hot chocolate mixes here!
Emulsify the hot chocolate mix into a couple of tablespoons of milk before adding the rest of the milk. I used a small whisk, but a fork would also work well! This ensures that your drink is completely smooth and lump-free.
Personalize your hot chocolate by adding your own flavors with spices, herbs, and fruit. Nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice, or even cayenne and chilli are several spices to make your cocoa extra interesting. Lavender buds, rosemary, and mint would be delicious as well as orange peels or raspberry syrup.
