Hope of the States continue their unexpected but most welcome of combacks with the release of ‘Billboard Mountain’.
While its opening minute is filled with typically cinematic strings and Morricone-esque tones as Sam Herlihy declares ‘This grief makes energy. Believe, believe, believe’, the song then harks back to ‘The Lost Riots’ favorite ‘George Washington’: ‘Set the banks on fire, like we always said we would, start riots and disorder like we always knew we could. Stand up and be counted, still no one’s buying me’.
As the song progresses, there’s military drumming, melodic hooks and a suitably big ending. It’s so good to have them back.
