Honey Lung – ‘Be My Friend’

New Big Scary Monsters signings Honey Lung have shared ‘Be My Friend’ ahead of what’s sure to be an exciting year. The band were formed following frontman Jamie Batten’s Gumtree advert requesting ‘like-minded individuals to help create sonic hell’ and have already played festivals including SXSW, Reading and Leeds and Latitude and received acclaim from Steve Lamacq and Huw Stephens.

The new single – ‘an ironic song that pokes fun at awkward social situations and the funny ways we act just to be liked or feel accepted’ – has a classic indie-pop feel that reminded us of Albert Hammond Jr’s solo material but combined with the slacker stylings of The Get Up Kids or Disq. Jamie sings ‘Nothing is the same as when you were my friend’ and ‘I beat around the bush’ over woozy and hypnotic guitar solos and instantly hummable melodies.
