“Honey, Life is Just a Classroom.”

“Honey, life is just a classroom.”

One of several posts in my Taylor Swift series, loosely and directly inspired my main girl and her lyrical genius. One of my favorite things to read in the blogosphere is the ubiquitous ‘Things I’d Tell My Teenage Self’ post. It’s simple, to-the-point, oh so relatable and somewhat cathartic. To my disbelief, I haven’t written (or at least I haven’t shared) one of my own! And I think it’s fairly safe to say that I’ve learnt more than a handful of lessons from these early twenties years thus far. I think it’s a very healthy thing to look back on your experiences, good and bad, every so often and see just how far you’ve come and pull out the lessons from them. I strongly believe that every thing that happens to us, happens for a reason: to teach us, to scold us, to help us grow. Continuing with my Taylor Swift blog series, here are the things I’ve learnt and would tell my teenage self.
  • Under no circumstances fall in love with your best friend. Or not if you can help it.
  • Do not straighten your already-straight hair every single day. Once you embrace your natural tousles, your hair will become so healthy, glossy, soft and manageable.
  • No, you do not need a fifth red lipstick. You don’t. But you’ll buy it anyway.
  • It is very possible to relocate to another country with just one suitcase and one carry-on.
  • Don’t date a flatmate.
  • Text your friends out of the blue once in a while.
  • Double-text if you want to. Know when to end a conversation, though.
  • Try as you might to go cold turkey from someone, it probs won’t happen.
  • Pre-flight doorstep moments do happen.
  • Surprise flowers are up there in the top 5 best ways to brighten someone’s day.
  • It's all about quality and not quantity with friends.
  • Even if you think you’re invisible and easily forgotten about, you affect more lives and people than you’d imagine.
  • Don’t eat six Crème Eggs in a row.
  • Once in a while, be brave and do something wildly out of your comfort zone.
  • Be true and honest, always.
  • Take time to look at the stars in the night sky.
  • Time can heal almost anything. Cliché klaxon!
  • This world is smaller than you’d ever believe!
  • Not much beats the satisfaction of Tetris-slotting your food shopping perfectly into the back of your car.
  • Someone out there ‘gets’ you. Just you wait.
  • Do talk to strangers on the Internet! ^____^ (Well, within reason!)
  • In a world that is peppered with social media and oversharing, it’s special to keep some things tightly to yourself.
  • Hug your family every day.
  • Take all the photos that you can.
  • School might not actually get better for you. But that period in your life will pass.
  • Study hard. Work hard. Play harder.
  • Always be unapologetically you.
