Homemade Donut Holes Or Donuts

By Upliftingfam @upliftingfam

donut holesI bought several cans of biscuits on my last trip to the grocery store and my kids kept asking me what I planned on making with them since I normally don’t buy a ton of biscuits.  I told them that I was going to make them surprise using the biscuits.  Today my son asked me to make the surprise recipe.  I told him that was an excellent idea and asked him to help me.  I remember when I was younger that we used to make homemade Donuts at home, so I decided to make donut holes in hopes that they would taste similar to sopapillas.  However, they aren’t as light and flakey like a sopapilla.

Ingredients and Supplies Needed to Make Homemade Donut Holes and Donuts

1-2 small cans of biscuits

small frying pan

vegetable oil

tongs

paper plates or plates

knife

bowl

sugar

cinnamon

Directions for Making Homemade Donut Holes or Donuts

  1. To make donut holes, cut up biscuits into small pieces.  Donuts are also easy to make.  To make the center hold use the top from a two liter bottle.  Use the top to put a hole in the middle of the biscuit dough.
  2. Mix about 1/4 cup of sugar in a bowl.
  3. Add cinnamon to the sugar and stir it so that it looks light brown
  4. Pour oil into the frying pain so that it will cover about half of your dough.
  5. Turn on burner to med-high.
  6. Wait until the oil is hot before placing the dough into the oil.
  7. Once the oil is hot, place several pieces of dough into the oil.
  8. The donuts cook very quickly and need to be turned over using tongs to avoid burning yourself.  This is a good place to encourage your child to help you.  I had my son stir the donuts after I placed them into the sugar mixture in the next step.
  9. Once the donuts are fully cooked, place donuts in cinnamon sugar mixture.  Quickly stir or turn over the donuts before the oil dries.  The oil allows the sugar mixture to stick to the donuts.
  10. Place sugar covered donuts onto a plate.
  11. Repeat as necessary.
  12. Enjoy!
