Homemade Apple Syrup Recipe

Okay so a few weeks ago I introduced you to my new favorite drink mix-in: the pumpkin spice syrup that's perfect for making homemade pumpkin spice latte's and drizzling on everything. But now...I may have a new favorite: this homemade apple syrup!! It's the apple-y counterpart to the pumpkin spice syrup, and depending on your favorite fall flavor, this just may be your new favorite too.

This homemade apple syrup is so easy to make, with just TWO ingredients (plus a few others if you want to jazz it up a bit) and just a bit of your time - most of it hands-off.

Here's what you'll need:

  • Apple Cider or Juice: look for one that is 100% apples, not additives or sweeteners (I used one from a local apple farm)
  • Maple Syrup: you can also use honey or coconut sugar, but I love the maple flavor in this recipe

Those two ingredients are all you really need, but if you want to *jazz things up* a bit, you can also add:

  • Cinnamon Sticks: these will infuse with the syrup
  • Apple Pie Spice: for a little extra spice
  • Vanilla Extract: for warmth and flavor, this is added at the end of cooking

How to make Homemade Apple Syrup

  1. Combine the apple cider and maple syrup in a saucepan. Add the cinnamon sticks and/or apple pie spice if using.
  2. Bring to a low boil and simmer for about 30 minutes, until it's reduced by about ⅔ (⅓ of the original volume). Drop a bit onto a plate and let cool for a minute - it should be sticky and not too thick. It will thicken as it cools.
  3. When it's the right consistency, pour into your bottle and refrigerate! If it's a little too thick, add a little extra cider to get it to the right consistency before bottling. If it's not quite thick enough, boil until it reaches the right consistency.
  4. Drizzle in and on everything, and enjoy!!
