I came across this colorful, modern home in the latest online edition of New England Home. My impression was “wow!” I was immediately drawn to the home’s design. The colors, furnishings and accessories are just spectacular. It’s a traditional Boston brownstone that’s been completely renovated by Boston-based interior designers Catherine Skaletsky and her daughter Danielle McClure. And what a fabulous job they have done! The homeowners gave the designers carte blanche to design as they wish, knowing that the end result “would be glorious.” Such an arrangement is every designers dream! They set out to create a light and airy ambience with a hint of California. They also wanted to dispel any gloominess by adding special touches such a sandy-colored carpet and oyster-hued throws.
The exterior is 19th century. With the front facade looking like this, you know the interior going to be stunning.
The designers had the trims painted white to contrast against the azure walls, enhancing the brightness of the space.
Lovely, isn’t it? The blue and white walls and furnishings are so fresh and clean! The tall bay windows add to the height and airiness of room.
The dining-room table was positioned near the bay windows.
I can definitely picture myself curled up on this chaise lounge with a good book or magazine.
This kitchen is a dream! Color is added to this neutral space with the light, pebble-colored tile backsplash. I have to say that the size and positioning of the tiles really makes them the statement piece in this kitchen, even more so than the range hood.
“Sunny and bright” is the description that comes to mind when I look at this master bedroom. The designers’ idea was to transform this one-time library into a room that mimics the presidential suite in a fine hotel. The ceiling’s architectural detailing is what makes this room so unique. It definitely kicks the appearance of the room up a notch!
This is the guest room! It’s inspired in part by the homeowner’s fondness for Ralph Lauren’s classic style. Walls are painted a rich, glossy brown as a backdrop for an array of timeless furnishings. It’s a dramatic space, don’t you think?
This updated brownstone is colorful, fun, and full of life!
Have a really great Friday,
Simone
