Piles are also known as hemorrhoids and there is a swollen collection of tissues in the anal area. It contains blood vessels, support tissue, muscle, and many elastic fibers which may be internal or external.

Internal piles are located between 2 and 4 centimeters (cm) above the anal opening and it is the most common type. External piles are located on the outside edge of the anus.

What are the causes of piles?

Causes of piles may include:

  • Pregnancy is the common cause which leads to piles
  • Increased pressure in the lower part of the rectum

Other causes that increase the chances of piles are:

  • Chronic constipation
  • Chronic diarrhea
  • Heavy weight lifting
  • Straining when passing a stool
  • Sitting for a longer period on the toilet

  • Eating a low-fiber diet

What are the symptoms of piles?

In most cases, the piles and their symptoms normally resolve on their own after a few days. A person may experience symptoms include:

  1. Bright red blood after a bowel movement
  2. Itching, redness, and sores in the anal area
  3. The urgency to pass stool
  4. Mucus discharge
  5. Formation of a painful lump around the anus
  6. Pain during the passing of a stool
  7. In more severe cases there will be:
  8. Excessive anal bleeding which may lead to anemia
  9. Infection
  10. Unable to control bowel movements
  11. Formation of anal fistula, a new channel is formed between the skin surface near the anus and inside the anus
  12. A strangulated hemorrhoid is formed in which there is no blood supply, causing complications including infection or a blood clot

2. Aloe vera

How to use:

  • Prepare juice of fresh pulp of Aloe Vera. Drink this juice regularly early in the morning on an empty stomach.
  • If you are suffering from external piles, then take fresh make a paste of fresh pulp of Aloe Vera and apply it over the affected area for reducing itching.

3. Radish

Radish is a well-known herb that contains high rich dietary fiber. It increases digestive power and keeps the stool soft. 4. Black Cumin Seeds

  • Take a tablespoon of unroasted and roasted black cumin each. Make a fine powder of it and store it in an airtight container.

5. Buttermilk

Butter is the easiest home remedy that can be used once or twice daily. It also reduces pain, swelling, and redness associated with piles patient.

How to use:

  • Add a pinch of black pepper, 1/4 tsp of roasted cumin seeds powder, and black salt in a glass of buttermilk. Mix it properly and drink it once daily for better results.
  • Make a juice with bitter gourd leaves and add a teaspoonful of it in a glass of buttermilk. Mix it properly and drink this juice once daily.

6. Triphala

Triphala is prepared from Amla (Emblica officinalis), Haritaki (Terminalia chebula), & Bibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica). This herbal remedy has been used in Ayurveda for many ages and you can also prepare it at home. This combination of herbs possesses antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, immuno-modulator, & laxative properties. It shows effective results in piles.

How to use:

  • Take a teaspoonful of Triphala powder with a glass of lukewarm water at night time after food intake.
  • Add a half teaspoon of Triphala powder in a glass of lukewarm water. Drink it once in a day daily for effective results.

7. Figs

Figs are loaded with vitamin A, B, & minerals such as iron, calcium, potassium, & phosphorus. It is rich in high fiber content & maintains good digestive health. It maintains the overall health of the body and manages the symptoms of constipation.

How to use:

  • Soaked two to three dried figs in a glass of water and keep it overnight. Consume them early in the morning on an empty stomach.
  • Ripe figs are also eatable as it is good for health.

8. Mango

  • Take dry mango seeds and make a fine powder of it then store it in an airtight container.
