HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT: VMA Nominees
For this special episode of Hit me with your best shot, Nathaniel flipped the script on us, assigning this year's MTV VMA nominees for Best Cinematography as this week's topic. The recently announced honorees include music videos from Flying Lotus, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, FKA Twigs and Alt-J. To be honest, it's not the most visually stimulating set of nominees overall, but I did have some very brief thoughts for my best shot picks...

HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT: VMA Nominees
Flying Lotus - Never Catch Me ft. Kendrick Lamar
This one has such a cool concept, with the kids emerging from their coffins. My favorite shot is at the end though. I love the freedom and joy conveyed here.

Ed Sheeran - Thinking Out Loud
I love this song, it's so sweet. The video isn't very dynamic though, especially since Ed Sheeran is living up to the "dorky white guys can't dance" stereotype. He's barely doing anything! His partner on the hand...fierce!

Taylor Swift - Bad Blood ft. Kendrick Lamar
I never know if it's cool or not to like Taylor Swift and the recent Nicki-Taylor drama just confirms that. Regardless, I kinda love this video, especially since it's so obviously "cinematic". Whether it represents bad cinema or not is another matter though. This shot could come from either the most awesome, badass feminist film...or absolute trash. "Sucker Punch" anyone?

FKA twigs - Two Weeks
Whoa, this drew me in immediately. I love the visual concept of this one. FKA Twigs is serving up the "Cleopatra" remake we didn't know we needed. Wouldn't you be intrigued by this promo still? I know I would.

alt-J - Left Hand Free
I was pretty apathetic towards this whole video, but this is a nice shot.
